Well, the dies you would be looking for are called the 6.5-08 Ackley Improved if you decide to go that route.
To *improve* or *not to improve*...my general rule of thumb is if you are planning to fire 100 or more rounds during the year. This doesn't apply to some cartridges however. There are other reasons. When a friend in Alaska and I were discussing various cartridges to chamber a '98 Mauser action for hunting caribou in Alaska...we decided on the 8x57 Mauser necked up to .338 and Ackley Improved. Pressure limit was to be in the 59,0000psi +/-. This cartridge was named the 338x57 Mauser AI or just 338 MAI for short. 200gr CT/BST at 2900fps grouping in about an inch, not too shabby!
The 6.5-08AI I have built was designed to hunt coyote/PD, pigs and the occasional deer. Pac-Nor 25", 1 in 11" twist #4 contour, SS on a Rem 788 action and bolted into a McMillan stock. Should do the job.
Just my thoughts for possible aid in your decision.
Best regards,
Ol' John

Just received a new 260 Rem Lothar Walther barrel I bought on the Campfire here. 1/8" twist, perfect.

I knows betta than dat! btw, did I tell you I've shot out my 6.5-284 barrel? One thousand two hundred of hot, hot, boolet's down that tube did it in. It's telling me no mas! This one will stay at 260 Rem with a 25" tube on the Ti action. Short actions and long bullets are where it's at.

I need a .260 savage 110 barrel IF I do the project. it would have to be the right deal on the barrel first, since I'm thinning down my rifle selection I need this as my go between, otherwise I'll sell the rifle and get by with the 243 and 7mm rem mag, which is very do-able

I decided to go with the 260 rem. next I need to pick a barrel, I'm happy with shilen, douglas so I'll go with one of them. probably shilen I know its blasphemy here but I'm thinking to save a little and go with a chromoly barrel. it will save me 70 bucks, which I know doesn't sound like a lot, but to me it sure is. I would love to have a stainless barrel, will I be kicking myself later? something in me says yes, but something else says the rifle won't get shot all that much, so it won't make that much of a difference. someone put my mind at ease, please!!!
next is brass and dies. pretty much everything I have seen out there is brand new, and I did a search in the classifieds that yielded nothing in a long while in anything related to the 260 rem.

I'd certainly go SS if it were me.

No way would I do CM on a hunting build. CM has to be blued as well, so that can even the pricing out.

One of my main hunt rigs (G33/40) is all black and I'm from the camp of no way would I stick a stls on it....grin But, my other main hunt rig is a pure shovel (M700) and it'll most likely always wear a slts tube on it... IMO, some guns need to be all black. Dober

I know, I think I might have sold another rifle today and I'm really thinking on doing the SS tube and not looking back. the rifle won;t see much use, so a chromoly would most likely work fine, but I hate "most likely" when it comes to a rifle. I've given it much thought and its gonna get a stainless barrel.

well I sold another rifle this morning, and with the little extra cash I have decided to go ahead and get the stainless barrel.
I was talking with a BR buddy of mine and he suggested the 6.5-284 now I know the only new brass out there isn't cheap, and my guess is finding serviceable brass used is gonna be like finding a needle in a haystack.

I shoot a 260 AI, make my brass out of WW 7-08brass, works very well, cause you can create a false shoulder, I'm a BR shooter and use the 260AI as my primary hunting cartridge, does everything the 6.5-284 with 4grs less powder and longer barrel life(not that you would wear a barrel out big game hunting) The standard 260 is a FABULOUS cartridge. Barrel is a Bartlain 1-8.5 Rem varmint taper cut rifled stainless great stuff talk to Frank, he'll get you set up. Another Great Choice for a tube would be Rock Creek Barrels, James L will make you anything you need with top notch service also cut rifled. Just my opinions, PM me if you have any specific questions, good luck with your build. here is a good info link on the 260AI the long family

I'm going with a SS shilen barrel, I really like their performance on my 6x45. I'm going to do more load development on that this weekend, and I'm excited for that!
all I need now are the dies for 6.5-284 anyone have an idea where to get an inexpensive set? I saw redding dies at scheels for around 60 bucks, if I can't find anything else I'll go with them, I know you can't go wrong with redding
