.......want a gun you had no use/need for? I live in south Texas and will probably never hunt outside Texas again. I would love to have a #1 in 375 H&H, and I don't like recoil. I would also like to own a 9.3x57, but with the bullets avaliable it doesn't 'match' our whitetails or meat pigs. Neither does the 375 either. I believe that if I own it I want to hunt with it. Whats a man to do? capt david

"It's not how hard you hit 'em, it's where you hit 'em." The 30-06 will, with the right bullet, successfully take any game animal in North America up to 300yds.

If you are a hunter, and farther than that, get closer!

captdavid,

Yup, all the time. Just never got 'em. If I got all the guns that I had a hankering for(even just temporary hankerings) I'd be broke. I like the ones that I have and they serve one purpose or another. I guess that I have to try and jusitify their existance before I buy them.

All the frimpin' time. And they tell me there's no way to curb that desire either. It's funny because I've become somewhat of a minimalist in many ways as I've gotten older, cutting back on many useless possesions, but something in the back of my mind says the gunsafe can never be too full. I guess I'm a candidate for that 12 step plan.

captdavid,

I don't ever consider that there is a good reason to avoid having a rifle. Practicality has nothing to do with it. Pride of ownership does.

The 9.3x57 and the .375 H&H a can be ideal cartridges for hunting either deer or pigs. The bullet selection for the 9.3's has grown in the last couple of years due to the increase in awareness of the cartridges, chamberings and quality rifles available. There are now bullets of all types, styles and weights to accommodate virtually any type of game that is within reason. These comments apply with equal force to the .375 H&H.

Don't overlook the use of cast bullets in both of these cartridges. When loaded down and topped with a correctly designed cast bullet, I wouldn't hesitate to take either of these two cartridges hunting. In fact, I have shot deer with cast bullets and a .375 H&H. Excellent experience!

Best.

I've had more regrets putting off buying a firearm and then have it discontinued before I got around to buying one. The S&W M63 "kit gun" and Colt Anaconda 6" .45LC are two that come to mind. I did buy a S&W 629 Power Port before I got stung again.

there isnt hardly any caliber that would be to much for the game i hunt or may hunt in the future here in idaho.

everything from 20cal to 338 would have its own purpose.

ive been haveing a hankering for heavy heavy bench gun. but that want will fade off pretty quick

Not a whole lotta pachyderms roaming South Carolina but my trusty .411 KDF Magnum is within arm's reach in case they bust outta Riverbanks Zoo and end up in my yard.

A lot of them. I like big bores, and own and shoot several, but really I don't "need" them. There is nothing here in Arizona that can't be dropped by a .30-06. But a .460 Weatherby sure does a number on a 5 gallon pail of water! Bill T.

I had a gorgeous .460 WBY Europa for about 12 years. I shot it off the bench mostly with 350 grain Hornadys but I had 500 & even 600 grain Barnes for it too. The 600's hurt! I live in Iowa and we can't even use centerfires on deer. The 460 wasn't much of a coyote gun, either, so in an unusal fit of reason, I sold it. I loved it so!
