Caught a bunch of 'em on dry flies from the rowboat. Good fun!

Duh, I went out an did a web search.
They are actually copying a fish that does occur in nature. Utilized varied technique (who in the heck stumbles on the method to change % of viable eggs) make it a viable fish to raise.
Be interesting to see if it were more heat tolerant like the brown or requiring the better water quality like a brookie.

Not a bad trout, the Utah DWR is in love with Tigers. Tigers are great if you have a lake you want to keep a cutthroat population from hybridizing with rainbows. Also, since they are sterile, Tigers won't over populate like Brookies have a tendency to do.
They are a great eating fish. They fight well. They are also, in general, very aggressive. However, I have fished one lake on Manti Mountain in Utah where the Tigers are a bit tough to catch.
I've had good luck on red leeches in the fall. A Halloween leech is also a great fly. This time of year I use a size 8 or 10 orange soft hackle fly. I use a ghastly bright orange thread which I cover with hares mash fur using Gary LaFointaine's touch dubbing method. The hackle is a ginger hen hackle. I use thuis fly as a trailer to mimic the October Caddis.
And as far as getting them drunk first to mate. I suspect the DWR uses a bucket...........a bucket to mix the eggs and sperm together.
