Caught him yesterday in a weedy lake up here in central PA on a beadhead olive wooly bugger. Given the weeds I'm sure he thought it a damselfly nymph. I had been fishing the little creek that flowed out of this lake catching a few small brookies. The three weight was almost not up to the gill once I got to the lake!

Sweeeeet!
One of my all time favorite things used to be catching bluegills on a fly rod... Popping bugs in the evenings, Nymphs in mid-day... Nice Pic! Ingwe

that look tasty!! love me some panfish. I am not much of a fish eater...but I'd make an exception in their case,,,, Theres a reason they call the "pan" fish... Ingwe

That's another pig-gill for sure Dave! I'd rather eat bluegills fried in cornmeal with a little paprika around a campfire than any other fish and that's saying a lot as I love pretty much any fish.

hey pugs do ya fillet em or scale em & cook em with the skin on or?
When I was a kid we used to scale em & just fry em in butter in a cast iron pan... man was that rich. I kind of miss that whole skin on thing... i remember it being really good anyways.

Love to have you guys down to our place in Kentucky in the summer. '
I generally gut gills then scale them and leave the skin on, then a little egg wash and roll them in the corn meal where I have already mixed in the paprika and then cook the in about an inch of very hot peanut oil. When they start "dancing" in the surface film they're done.
Damn, as much as I love deer hunting down there, a week in September squirrel hunting and bluegill fishing would be good.

That's a honker and a half there! Dang!

I love catching panfish on a 3 or 4 weight, especially on the surface.
