When flying to Africa, or any place else for that matter, do any of you buy extra insurance for your rifle and case? If so why? If not why not? I would think airlines would take better care of insured baggage.

Thanks,

I insure my rifles (and other guns) under my homeowner's policy. I found my homeowner's option cheaper than other alternatives, of which there are several, including NRA and specialty insurers.

I regularly fly to Africa to elephant hunt with $75k worth of rifles. My greatest source of fear isn't money lost if the rifles are lost, it is what the heck to do on Safari, because I'm a lefty. The insurance takes the fear of monetary loss away.

I have all of my guns/optics/etc. insured through Core-Vens Insurance. I have $50,000.00 coverage with a $1000.00 deductable for $350.00 a year. My homeowner insurance company would not even touch it for that price.

I'm with Bowhunr: I attempted to insure my guns thru Allstate, who insures my house, but Allstate wasn't interested unless I paid the moon and the stars for such additional coverage. No thanks. I now insure them thru SCI: application is a snap, no deductibles, and the policy covers guns, scopes, cases...pretty much everything.

I do not buy Gun Insurance, I have made dozens of trips and never lost a gun, and have a lot of friends that have made dozens of trips and none of them have ever lost a gun. Seems like the only people that loose guns are on the internet, and i do not believe half of the stories. And I can afford to loose a $5k gun, I only insure what I can not afford to loose,
