All,
What is the "Standard"(argeed distance) for "Long Range Hunting" here on the board?

Can't say as that's every been decided upon on any board. It varies by shooter, terrain, conditions, equipment and any other number of things.

I figure it starts about where a shooter can't just place the crosshairs/sights on the critters' kill zone and shoot. The shooter either needs to hold off, adjust the scope or something.

Thanks Guys, that really clears things up. Just like mud, now. Should we put it to a poll for a minimum distance? I just want clarification. My kill-zone from my deerstand is 276-300yds and I don't think that is a long shot, for hunting. I don't want to post pictures later this year and have someone tell me it isn't a "Long Range" shot. What do you say to 350yds(320m) as a minimum?

It's not a good idea to try and placate others with your hunting decisions. Hunt for yourself, and your reasons/satisfaction. If you are comfortable with the shot, that is reason enough to take it.

If you ask enough people, someone will say you ought not to have done it.

Spad,
Since most of my deer have been killed inside of 200, I consider the ones beyond 300 as long range for me.

If they are much farther than 300, I will try to hunt closer if possible. That may not be possible if I am in a tower stand for example. So, in my view a hunter should know the range where a 6" to 8" group occurs from his rifle/position and that should be an answer as maximum for that particular rifle/position. Do we have some amount of agreement yet?
