I am wanting to get a 99 in 250 Savage caliber. My main interest is in just getting that caliber. What would be the least expensive model that would be a good shooter. Thanks [color:"blue"] [/color]

Be good to yourself and stick to 99's made the original way. Before I owned one of those clip-fed abominations, I'd throw rocks. Post '64 or thereabouts the American gun makers went mad an built nothing but junk. They should all be rounded up and sent to the bottom of an abandoned mine and sealed with a nuclear detonation.

Hi you would be better off finding a rifle that has been drilled and tapped for a scope, and is no longer a collector piece, It will be as cheap as a clip fed model that never works right any way , and will be better balanced, Hubert//

I've owned 99CDs with pretty nice looking wood and, while the checkering may be machine cut, it is exponentially better looking than the typical pressed checkering that Savage offered after 1964.
I like 99CD wood and wish that I had bought several sets back when it was commonly available. Heck, I like it so much that I had Wenig use it as the pattern for the laminated wood that they made for on my 6.5-284.
