I have a Winchester 1885 270 WSM 28" Octagonal BBL that I want to trade for another 1885 in 7mm Remington Mag. Rifle is in excellent condition with box. Pics to be added later. Thanks, Anthony

You could have this rebored for less than half the cost of the gun.

Reloader 28,

Great idea, except the seller wants a 7mm Rem mag which I am 99.9% sure will not clean up a WSM chamber near the shoulder area with a rechamber job once rebored.

I am also not sure any rebore outfit will go from .270 to 7mm . Not enough metal there for the grooves to clean up either?

Anyway, something like a .300 rem ultra mag on up may be the only thing that this rifle could be be rebored to..

Not to mention the fact only so many 1885s were ever made in the .270 WSM and I doubt they will make more..

Seems a shame to alter a rifle in that condition with the box and everything..

And Browning/Winchester will make more, as they are producing them right now. You're not making much of a valid point.

I would agree with that statement. I nice rifle to take to Africa so a gun barer can carry it for you. Those 1885's are darn heavy.

Did you buy this rifle new?

If so, how many rounds through it?

And how does it shoot?

I did not buy new. They shoot very well as the forend is free floated and the barrels are very well made. Thanks, Anthony

Anthony,

I know the rifle's specs and reputation as I own and have owned quite a few of these.

Have you shot this rifle? If so, how many times and how did it shoot?

I shot her 20 rounds with a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10 and got groups of 3/4" - 1 1/2" with Winchester 130 Ballistic Silvertip. I am not good at bench shooting. Anthony
