I need to lube the speedometer cable on my 1990 toyota 4runner. How tough is it to get to? rimshot

IIRC on a manual transmission, it should be fairly easy from the transmission end. It screws into the side of the transmission and is fairly visible/accessible.
My question is why the lube? Does the factory maintenance call for it? If she's becoming noisey, replace it.

Thanks for the reply. Mine is an automatic with the 3.0 V6. Is it still simple to access? If so, I will follow your suggestion and replace it. rimshot

I've never messed with the speedo cable on a Toyota auto transmission so can't comment. You might want to post your question in one of the various 4X4 forums or auto forums on the 'net. Another route is just to look it up the procedure in one of the service manuals (Chilton, Hayes etc), the auto parts stores usually carry these. (a library may have em too)
Badger might know the procedure as he is pretty sharp, perhaps he will chime in.
