I am a beginning reloader and I accidentally ordered Reloader 17 instead of Reloader 15. It has already been shipped. I intended to use the Re15 in a bolt action 300 Savage. I also have a 270WCF BAR and a Steyr SBS in 6.5X55. Will Re 17 work well in the 270 or the 6.5? I think it may be too slow for the 300 Savage. I have three reloading manuals and none of them show Re17 at all.

It's new but supposed to be good stuff. Might not be optimal for the 300sav but will work well in the 6.5 and 270. Might have to email Alliant for data.

The Allient web site should have loading info for RL-17. In any case, you can use IMR-4350 data for loads. That's what I did when I loaded with it for my 25-06.

Reloder 17 was created with new technology to provide velocity greater than the competition in the most popular standard rifle calibers and the new short magnums. Following are recipes developed in our Ballistics Laboratory (all loads used Speer bullets and list the correct Overall Length- DO NOT SEAT THE BULLETS TO A LESS OVERALL LENGTH). These recipes are maximum loads and shall not be exceeded.

I got some to try out in various calibers..

have loaded up some for the 308

tried some in my 22.250, 6.5 x 55 and 7 x 57...

kind of in the burn rate of H 414.... close to IMR 4320 in my opinion...

even if it won't give you max velocity in your 300 Savage it will still give you plenty enough velocity....

you will also see that it is very accurate...at least in my rifles I have tried it in so far...

it is also an easy powder to work with, like RL 15 is..

It has a burn rate similar to H4350 and IMR4350 you can use that data for a starting point with loads that are not listed by alliant. I did this in the 257bob and had pretty good results.

In my 270 I am running 53grns of RL17 with 140grn AB @3110fps no signs of pressure at all and shoots great.
