Still have the pic on my cell phone. One of the secretaries downstairs just got back from Wyoming. She's a artsy-fartsy, anti gun, libber type who just spoke of all the beautiful places they went to visit in their rented trailer home. I then said here's what a buddy of mine did while he was there this week and showed her your ram pic. It non-plussed her!

Congrats again,Keith.

Did your guide do a complete cape job on the mountain or did he take the skull and finish the caping back at base camp?

I've caped a lot of animals but never on a mountain side. That would be a challenge in itself.

We both worked on caping the full body down to the skull. We took quarters off as we went. It got to late to finish it. I hauled the head with the cape attached (rolled up) back to my taxidermist who finished it. I didn't have a cooler large enough so I put 3 blocks of ice in the bottom of a double layer of heavy trash bags to prevent leaking. Put the sheephead and cape inside. Put the whole thing on my front seat of my crew cab, seat belted it in, covered it with a sunshade and turned the a/c on high! grin

It worked!

Thanks for the details. Caping the head is a tedious task and I was wondering how easy it would be to accomplish on a mountain side.

I use a caping table that I made. It has a 5" diameter hole cut in the center. This is where the snout of the deer go's while I make a t-cut between the ears. From the T-cut I then do the ears , antler bases and the eyes.I then pull the snout out of my "holding hole" and rock it back to be able to do the mouth and nasal area. It takes me about 30 minutes to do a red stag head.

I must concur on a few points mentioned:
1) Beautiful ram and well earned.
2) Definitely an ugly mug on the hunter!
3) Definitely one of the nicest guys I've been fortunate to meet!

Congratulations on a great story and great ram.

Keith... I know what ya mean!!! Last year on my elk hunt we were only at 7000-8000 feet, and I was suckin' wind bad!

Great pics on this one, BTW. Just had to re-up the thread. Hope you'll have cool speed-goat hunt pics to post in 2 weeks!!! laugh

A huge congrats from me & the Kid!
Trophy of a lifetime.
We'll be back in your mountains come October.
Just may run into you someday back there.
Again That's just great that it all came together for you!
I am crowding 50 and feel your pain, you young studs just wait!....
I was up in the mountains yesterday with a pack on my back.
I still get around pretty well, but not like when I was in my twenties.
I remember lugging elk quarters off of Needle Mountain at about 11000 feet, man to have that body again.....
It's tough when you keep saying "I used ta" Fortunatley my kid is pullin my slack more & more.
I think mental toughness will get you further than physical toughness sometimes.
Sure that hunt tested both.

Looking forward to another Wyoming hunt.
You done well.
Take Care.

We will have pics to post! Just got the trailer set up and almost ready to go. When you get here we need to set up the awning and side tarp is all.

Ya know, if this keeps going it'll have to be closed down like the you-know-what thread.

You have to be very careful on your answer when asked, "How you going to mount that sheep?" eek
