One thing to consider Waders is to bring him a lil something when you go, and then while you're there you'll be able to observe him and his house and will get some really good ideas as to what he might appreciate.

yep, so long as one remembers that the poor "country-cousin" is gifting "one" with a true remembrance, that is a day a-field, on good productive land.

it's a gift. how does one remunerate such an out-pouring of heart and soul?

well, we can't. but we can offer a gesture of well-being, and peace. custom knives are never wrong. if i walked over, and hunted a 100 acres in a day, just sayin', then it's difficult to compensate said LO for the gracious gift he afforded me.

this is truly a great thread. it allows us to discuss the nuances associated with walking and hunting on land that is being upkeeped and maintained by Others.

I had always hunted quail on my BIL's farm. A gentleman from a neighboring county that owned an outdoor store started to hunt there, bringing coats and clothing for the family on each visit. No problem to me, I'm married to his sister and I release quail there. Then the guy gave my BIL a super deal on a Pre-64 Win Mod 70 in .264Win Mag and a nice .222. I didn't get to open season there for a few years after that. Life is good.

Maybe it's just me. I really think giving gift cards or money it tacky and very impersonal. All it says is "I care this much $$$". My inlaws do that. I am too the point where I would rather get nothing then another gift card. Get them something that means something to them, and so that they can tell you put some thaught into it. A gift from the heart is worth alot more then a financial gift.

If it were me I'd do a few fillets of smoked salmon, a nice knife for him and a nice pendleton throw for her.

I got my guy an arial photo of his farm, and framed it. It cost alot less than a hundred dollars, and the guy remembers me everytime he looks at the photo.

They are giving me a "gift" and I like to return it ,so I don't usually give a gift cert.
It sure beats a "handshake and seeya" though.

I like to give a Carhart coat and a few pair of good gloves for the man and I like the pendelton throw idea for the wife. The wife can be tough to figure.

That you care enough to think it through shows more appreciation than cash on the way out the driveway.

I'd go with the gift card for dinner at $75 (or whatever a good meal for 2 costs) and find out what feed store or mercantile he uses and do a $125 gift card there so he can keep the wife happy and pick out his own stuff. And if you get your antelope early offer a couple of days work on the ranch.
