The Millett rear sight on my 1006 has been giving me fits. It was an after market installation that I've never really liked. While it fit the factory dovetail, it perched well clear of the slide. After carrying it and shooting it since 2000, it has started shifting zero to the left. What's even worse is it wouldn't always come back and stay put.
So, she is getting a flush mounted, fully adjustable rear sight and a new front sight as the present one is for the very high Millett installation.
I suggested the S&W one that came as an option. With some machine work, it would fit flush, and it has protective ears for a smooth profile. My other choice was a Bomar.

The factory S&W sight is a higher quality sight than the Millett, it just doesn't look as nice. I'm not sure I follow what you have in mind, but I would recommend just going back to the factory sight.

I always thought S&Ws main design criteria for that sight must have been something like:

"Sight must withstand 5000 cycles of pistol-whipping subject with force of XX ft-lbs."

That is one hefty sight.

I don't have any suggestions to your sight issue. The S&W pistols I have some trigger time with, with factory adjustable sights, seemed to be acceptable to me.

I'm curious as to how your pistol has held up over the years? I'm considering adding a 1006 to the stable as I have found a lightly used example at a reasonable price. Do you shoot "real" 10mm rounds through it? I ask that as most garden variety 10mm ammo is little more than top end .40 S&W.

I have a bit of experience with the round in the 1911 and a revolver, but I've never know anyone who has put lots of full power rounds through a S&W.

Mine came with fixed sights, not the adjustable ones.
It has held up well, but I have only about 500 rds. through it.
I've been advised by an S&W rep that when It wears it out, and that takes 1000's of rds., not 100's, it cannot be rebuilt.
Too bad. Really nice pistol. Handles recoil much better than the 1911 guns I've shot in this rd., and is very acurate. Groups have run as small as 3/4 of an inch for three at 25 yds.
I just started using reduced power lead loads. Those are 6.8 grs. of AA 2 with a 140 gr. cast FP. My full power loads are 10.8 grs. of AA7 with a 180 gr. Remington GS HP. Both shoot the same zero.
Thanks, Kevin. The factory adjustable sight is my first choice. E

my suggestion is the factory adjustable sight mine has held up with no trouble granted i only have about 2500 rounds through mine.

the 1006 holds up great if you have a chance to pick one up do it you will not regret the decision

The smith and wesson 10mm's are getting tougher and tougher to find and the price keeps climbing. I have owned several 1006's,1076,1086 and currently have a 1066 for my carry weapon.Buffalo bore ,double tap, norma, winchester silvertips are some of the most potent I have fired. If you see a great price on any smith 10mm I would snag it up..
