Hi,

I know nothing about Quickload software, however
would someone be kind enough to run this load for me and tell what quickload says in terms of velocity and pressure, etc.

308 Win, Tikka T3, 20.5 inch barrel
46 grains VARGET
WIN Brass
CCI 200 Primers
Hornady 165 grain SP
OAL 2.785 inches.

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks very much!

Hi,

Bear in mind Quickload needs a lot of fine tuning to begin to replicate the conditions in your gun and cartridge. These calculations used a mix of your specific data and Quickload's default assumptions, but given these (abbreviated) results I'd work up to that loading very carefully.

Maximum pressure = 61020 psi
Muzzle velocity = 2695 fps
Project. energy at muzzle = 2661 ft.lbs

Regards,
John

Thanks John. This load is running around 2600 fps in my rifle. All signs and velocity seem to indicate that I am probably in a good, but safe pressure zone. Thanks a lot for running these numbers for me. I really appreciate it.

Is Quickload an expensive program. I might consider buying the program at some point.

Colin

I think Quickload costs about 100pounds here in the UK, so quite expensive, but I reckon it's by far the most flexible application for evaluating internal and external ballistics. I've lost hours of my life playing around with it :-)

Actually I would argue that it really depends on how many calibers and bullet wieghts you are shooting.

I load for about half a dozen calibers, and three to four different bullet wieghts in each caliber. This is excluding coated and uncoated variants of the bullet. (9 para, .222 Rem mag, 7.62x39, .260 Rem, 8x60S, 6 BR)

I reckon that QL has actually saved me a lot of range time, trying to find an accurate load for my rifle that would work.
I can work up a load that should theoretically be accurate in a given rifle, and then work from there. Normally it takes me 3-4 groups to get the best accuracy at most.

Then it is off to try the various powders... so in the end I reckon QL actually pays for itself.

And ofcourse there is the advantage of being able to spend endless hours tinkering with it. smile
