I decided to make the stand switch last night to another tree. Deer activity had me rehanging yesterday at 2:30 pm. After 1 hour and 45 min I had my stand rehung 26 yards form the original location. I headed back out at 4:45 and the wind was perfect. Saw some does right after I got in grazing in the clover of the grown up pasture. Later with a total of 8 does passing an 8 point came by. The sun was down and clouds were brewing.
I see another buck coming and pull up the binos but could not tell what buck it was then another then another . They are at 25ish yards and I am trying to see who was who but they was in view then behind the limbs back and forth. Finally I just put the binos down and the ''big 9'' was a no doubter and seemed to come from nowhere.
I get everything ready and the first buck passes throught the shooting lane at 16ish yards . Next the big guy stops in the lane. I came to full draw and tried to settle in as I released he lunged forward 2 steps.........High leg kick I knew it was not good. He trotted to 80 yards out and stopped under a large oak tree. I glassed him for approx 30 mins till it was too dark to see.
I get down and head across country to my parents house cause it is away from where he headed.
At 12:00 am we went back to the stand to check the arrow. Not Good!
I have had very little sleep but wake easily at 6:45 am . My two tracking buddys show up and about 7:30 and we are after him. Blood was very hard to follow and we only made it 25 yards. The sun was playing tricks so we wanted to wait till it got high to continue.
We pass the time by checking the pond and 2 small draws and another pasture field with no luck. At 9:45 the sun is still not high enough so we were gonna check the spring but wanted to make a big circle to get the wind right.
Out through the pasture in front of my stand and walked right up on him approx 60 yards from last blood. He died 80 yards directly in front of my stand.
This has been a tough day to deal with until 10:00 am rolled around.
