The 13 year old bonked a good one opening day, of course I was stuck working all weekend so missed the festivities. They let the kid sit and watch a little bowl in the Doug Fir while the old men made a push. This bad boy tried to circle behind and got zapped by the kid with the m99f, 2-7 vxi, 308 win shooting dads handload of 150 Nosler Solid base pushed by TAC powder. Steep quartering away shot at about 40 yards.

My dad and my son.

He's tagged along or hunting with the crew for maybe 6-8 deer and 3-4 bears. Last year was his first season actually hunting but I was stuck in Afghanistan so he hunted with grandpa and family. He took me out on Monday and we had a good time. He took me to spot he killed the buck and told me the whole story again. He has a youth cow tag and a youth any deer tag to fill in Dec-Jan. He could end up with an incredible season.

Awesome. My crew will be there before I know it, I'm sure.

And he did it in a red plaid jacket with a 99...even better.

The jacket was his great grandpa's his mom's (my wife) side. I picked up the grey rat a few years ago because the safety wouldn't engauge and I got it cheap. The smithy threw on a weld and reground it. We tend to make fun of the full camo thing. Must be an Army family thing. It's very brushy and safety is a concern on public land. In the open it helps you see your pards across the canyons and such.

I guess the blue jeans didn't screw anything up either, right?

He and your dad sure look happy, as they should.

Pretty proud Granddad, I'd say!

Thanks John,

It's pretty cool watching him become a hunter. Best of luck to Seafire Jr this year as well.

Hi Mike -

That's really pretty dang cool. Congratulations all around. Grandpas and kids and hunting BELONG together.

My great grandfather was there the day I got my first buck ... last day he ever hunted. Thanks for sharing your pictures and story and stirring the old memories.

Tom
