I got taken or snookered on a laminate Marlin clip fed 22 WMR at a gun show in Gwinnett County Ga in 2005. It was bought from a sporting goods dealer, town to be nameless, who had guns there to sell. It was used, his personal rifle. It looked brand new. I had wanted one for some time and paid top dollar for it.
The rifle was a great "single shot" and nice to look at and accurate. It would not feed. I ordered two more clips and it still would not feed. I tried several types of 22 WMR ammo. I fiddled with it enough to conclude that it was impossible for it to feed because it was missing some basic metal at the ramp.
After 4 years of just having it around, I figured it couldn't hurt to send it to Marlin. I got it back today, 10 days after I mailed it, working perfectly and no charge, plus two nice mailing boxes for the future.
You would think that dealer would have worried about me showing up at another show and creating a scene. Some folks have gall. That's twice now someone has taken me on either a failure to feed and didn't disclose, or gave me a faulty mag that was expensive to replace. You can't exactly have ammo with you to test these at a show.
