We are looking at hunting the area around Triangle Mountain during the second season. On the maps and Google there is a dead end road that goes around Triangle Mt. Curious about the condition of the dead end road and the number of hunters in the area during that hunt. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Saddlesore It is a couple of miles from Sweetwater Lake I am at work and don't have my maps I'll post more info later today. I think it is northwest of the lake.
Thanks

Saddlesore It is off of Hwy 70 at Vail,Eagle and Avon then turn onto Colorado River Rd then onto Coffee Pot Rd past Deep Lake and it is just before Indian Pass. Hope that helps and any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

OK,I know where it is then. North of Dotsero. I just try to avoid Coffee pot as I pull a big gooseneck stock trailer.A friend of mine has his buddies truck up that way and then ponies all the livetsock up the Dry Sweetwater to them as it is only 7 miles that way, instead of the 30 to the end of the road. The elk seem to be heading in that direction more so in the last few years and dumping down over the west side.Good luck.
I'llbe at the campground at Sweetwater Lake the 3rd sesaon.

What kind of condition is Coffee Pot Rd in? And will the elk stay around 10,000 feet if there is snow?
Thanks

I have not been on Coffee Pot for a few years, but have not heard anything worse about it. As far as I know it is still not one to try to pulla larger trailer on.Maybe a small utility. Lat report I had was about 6" of snow up on top at about 10500-11,000 Definitely not enough to push elk. PLus hunter pressure will keep them up there, unless they can sneak past, which I doubt. Most of the time they head for the rocks just below the tops and into the nasty blow down there.
There is a herd of 100 or so that seems to make big circles and just keep moving when hunters take a few shots at them. One day they are north of Budgies, then the next day they are on the Sweetwater, and the next Turret.

saddlesore, It looks like we are in for some deep snow third season. The elk near Montrose may be all the way down to BLM land. I hope.
