From what I gather, the elk is the result of a herd of animals transplanted into the Yukon from Yellowstone Park back about 1978 or so. This is the first year the Yukon has allowed a hunt for those elk.
The story is that the elk was shot by a hunting guide, so I'm guessing this guy has been seeing those elk for years and knew right where to go as soon as tags were for sale.
That thing scores something like 451 B&C (I think non-typical), which is high in the record book.
