I've picked up a Model 70 stainless synthetic 375 H&H from the classifieds. Of course I have to make some mods right?

I'm OK with the stainless but the black stock has to go one way or another. Anyone know anything about the quality of these stocks? How about the recoil pad? If OK I may have Rick or CAS paint it up nice.

I really think my first choice is a wood/stainless combo.

So show me some stainless/wood combos if you have them. Also, any painted synthetic stocks or swirleys with stainless.

Thanks,
wyattd

Here are a couple of pics of two custom winchester big bores. THis were two of the nicest rifles I have ever owned but unfortunately I had to sell them both to avoid some financial pitfalls after the birth of my 2yr old daughter. I guess it was a fair trade, I have a beautiful baby girl out the deal smile

First a lightweight 375 H&H. All excess metal removed from action and barrel turned down to a minimal countour. Ultra light kevlar stock. Barrel cut at 20" and brockmans popup peep with talley quick detach rings..
FInished weight of 6lbs 4oz without scope right at 7lbs with 1.5-5 leupold illuminated VXIII.

[Linked Image]

Second is another winchester 70 rebarreled in 458 Lott. Accurate innovations wood stock with 1.5-5 illuminated VXIII in talley QD rings with brockmans pop up peep. WEights right at 10lbs with scope. I think I miss this one even more than the lightweight.

I really can't say enough good things about the popup peep by brockmans.

Here are a couple of lefties. Tope rifle is a Dakota 76 in 375 Wby built by Biesen and topped with a Zeiss 2.5x8.
Bottom is a lefty MRC 458 Lott sitting in a McMillan stock and wearing NECG sights front and rear as well as a Leupold 1.5x5 in Talley QD mounts.

BTW, Both are for sale. PM me if you are interested. $2,300 for the Dakota. The Lott is $1,500. Neither price includes the scopes or rings.

1st pic is a .416 Swift which I built a few years back. It uses a .505 Gibbs case necked down and shoots a 400gr TSX at 2950fps with no pressure signs yet.(.30-06 case bellow for comparison). It's topped with a Zeiss 3-9x40. The 3rd pic is not a rifle but,,,,,,it's a .500 SD I built a few years back as well which started life as a standard .500 S&W BFR. I made my own cases (from full length Reformado cases) and it shoots 700gr hard casts at 1450fps with out sweatin. It shoots both the .500 SD and the .500 S&Ws (the littler case is a .500 S&W for comparison). Both are real thumpers. As usual the pics don't do them justice. They sure get attention at the range though.

Some fine rifles in this thread. I really like my LH SS 375 Ruger like BMT's.

Not a great pic, but the top one (dark tan & black) is a .375 Ruger:

Josh-that top rifle has always been in my top 10 of nicest rifles on the Fire. Too bad it had to go, but I totally understand and would of done the very same in a nano! Good on you for doing so!

I've always wanted a SS big bore, and two weeks ago I picked up an unfired M70 Classic in .375.

Trashed the plastic stock and bought a new McMillan (they actually had it in inventory.)

Called Sunny Hill and ordered their drop-box bottom metal in SS.

The bolt body and the inside of the action have both been stoned and polished. It's about 1000% smoother now than when it was new (lots of rough tooling marks in there from the factory.

Stock is now bedded (still need to clean off some of the leftover Devcon), and it is now ready for load development.

After I figure out what it likes this weekend, the metal will all be polished and sent out for bead-blast while the stock goes back to McMillan for paint (I wanted green instead of black.)

Here are some ugly WIP pics, but I promise it'll look a whole lot better in a couple of weeks.

Here are pics of the same gun, one with Winchester factory take-off with pillars & decel, also rubbed oil. The others are with the Bansner Hi-tech.
Gun is SS MRC in 375H+H
