Was perusing gunbroker and came across this:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=143553036

Anybody know anything more about these? Can't get onto the William Shooters Supply website without a login so not much info available. Hard to tell if this is the mid-size frame of their .357 and .44 Special or the full size frame of the Flat Top .44 Magnums.

Never heard of those before, but it looks like the .44 Mag Flat Top frame to me rather than the smaller .44 Special Flat Top frame.

That's what I'm thinking too, the more I think about it.

.41 Magnum pressures are a bit much for the metal that would be surrounding the chambers of a medium frame. The larger frame makes sense.

Oh well, now it's not nearly as exciting as when I first saw it. sleep

According to threads on Rugerforum it's a special run on the 44 mag size frame.
Hank Jr asked Ruger to make one for him, so they did an initial run of about 80 units, but Williams Shooters Supply has an order for 200 more.

Incidentally, the 44 Spec FT is a regular item in the 2010 catalog.

That's really cool, glad to see Ruger is keeping an eye on the market. Does it state if the grip frame is aluminum or steel?

That .44 Special Flat Top is about the best all around single action anybody's made since Colt came out the SAA. I really love mine.

Would be a lot cooler to see a 5 shooter on the .357 frame.

Don't get me wrong, I love the .41 and have quite a few of them...but why...if it's not lighter than a .44?

Would be cooler yet to have a 454 (45 Colt) 5-shot in std. Redhawk and Bisley.....

I could like that. With a proper chamber I could get along fine with the standard chambering, but it will have to be the racehorse to get sales.

Too bad they did not do that with the .480, it might still be with us. It's still with me, as I realize that what amounts to a standard 45-70 in a 5" handgun is a powerful entity. I'm still trying to comprehend what the thinking was with the "reduced recoil" factory loads for the .480. I can see them, along with the real stuff...not the weak stuff being the only choice.

Did I mention?

Bisley's rule?

.357 Flat top frame, 5 shot .41 cylinder, bisley grip frame, interchangeable blade front sight base...Daddy likes. smile

A stainless variant might be nice too.

Prezactly on the racehorse.

Have piloted reamers to make the standard a racehorse, so I'd be ducky.

The SRH and Ruger's "need" to make all such a six, plus a springy cylinder steel left all things suited to five shot to wither and die.

Don't blame me, I bought a Taurus! smile

Never been a SRH fan. I've got rifles that are handier.

I'll say that I have not owned a SRH snubbie, like they make now, but the platform has always seemed something better to club something to death with.

If I want an unwieldy club of a handgun, I'll use an XP...at least it is capable of being a rifle-equal in practiced hands.

Judging by the listed weight, they appear to be all steel.

BTW, these appear to be cylinder frames left over from the 44 Mag Anniv guns which you can get for a song right now. They way over estimated the market on those.
If you want a 357 size FT in 41mag Bowen, Clements, Harton etc will be happy to punch one out for you. And I doubt they would do it if the cylinder couldn't take it.

Question for the real Ruger fans.

Did Ruger ever build a three screw Blackhawk in 41 mag?

I thought there were a few out there but I might be wrong. I imagine that would answer the question: Is the 357 flat top frame and cylinder tough enough to handle the 41 mag?

They did, I had one in 4 5/8". Frisky little thing, too. For the life of me I couldn't tell you which frame size it was on.

The nice thing about getting older is that you have so much more to forget... crazy

If it were on the large frame, would it not be a Super Black Hawk?

Not meaning to be a smart azz, it is a real question.

Yes, they made 3 screws in both 41 mag and 45 Colt, both on the large (44 Mag) cylinder frame. The 45s are somewhat rare with about 22,000 made in 2 years of production.

The medium (357 3 screw and FT) frame is plenty strong enough for the 41. Custom smiths have been converting both for years.

OK, Ruger cylinder frames - 101.

Large - All NM Blackhawks (30 Car., 357, 41, & 45). All NM Super BHs. All 3 screw Blackhawks EXCEPT 357 (44 Mag Flat tops and Supers. The 44 MAG Flat Top and Super BH anniversary models. And now the 41 FTs.

Medium - All 3 screw 357s. 357 and 44 Special Flat top anniversary models.

Small - All Single sixes.

Ultra small - Bearcat (though a totally different design from the other 3).

Pete
