Bass Pro is offering this gun for 399.00 in various calibers and I could use a good back up gun other than my moose juicer. I am thinking the 243. Anybody know anything about this gun and if it is worth the effort? Thanks in advance.

its the first time I have seen it. Is it a 700, or maybe a 710?

At that price point is seems like it might be the model 770, a 710 upgraded slightly. Still likely a piece of crap.

Believe you nailed it, Bob. To my eyes, Bass Pro's "Remington Whitetail Pro" rifle look's just like the 770.

if you want a cheap good rifle buy a Vanguard, IMHO

Agreed.

I checked out a 770 a few months ago at the local ganderbelamart, and I'd have to say I am duly unimpressed. Its the only gun I have ever seen where the action managed to be both sloppy and sticky at the same time.

Same day there was a Vanguard 30-06 on clearance at Wally World for $399.99.

The 770 at any price doesn't begin to compare.
