After firing some Remington Cyclone LR hollowpoints through a Cooey 39 single shot bolt action, they started to 'backfire' towards my face through the receiver! I was surprised to say the least. A puff of powder was leaking backwards from the chamber, and some of it was flowing between the bolt and the receiver into my face. Most escaped away out the port-side of the receiver, so thankfully it was a pretty low-powered puff, rather than a high pressure & temperature blast. But this had never happened before or since with Winchester ammo. The ejected casings looked fine except for black powder marks along the side of the brass. I didn't think to look for any relation between powder marks and primer dimple.

Why oh why did I go back on my 20 year avoidance of Remington rimfire ammo?
