+another one for the Henry Mini-bolt. My two oldest, 12 and 10, both shot it very well and killed a few rabbits and other varmits with it. My youngest son is left eye dominant and right handed. He shoots the Henry with no problems lefty. Great sights and very accurate.

I'm glad this thread came up, as I had no idea that Savage made a lefty youth rimfire. I'm planning ahead for my left handed 3 year old I figure that when he hits 4-5 we'll be able to do a little (highly supervised) shooting together. His little brother looks to be right handed, so the two of them are going to wind up with matching rifles. Of course, If I had the big bucks, they'd both be sporting matching low-wall Winchesters... Scott-
One of us must be confused. To my knowledge Savage does not make a youth lefty. Correct me if I am wrong. A few people are talking about having their left dominant shooters use a right handed bolt.

CZ452 Scout. It will last all her life and shoot great, but it's right handed only. Not the cheapest. But it's a top quality bolt action rifle and I've seen a few adults using them as well. They go for about $250-$275 retail. CZ452 Scout Rifle

I bought a " cricket " for my youngest about 15 years ago and was disappointed to discover the rear sight wouldn't come down far enough for a proper sight picture [ shot high ] . I'll save you the trouble of posting that I could have replaced the front sight with a higher one - I know that !
So she learned to shoot with a scope .

I startd my children out with a CZ 452 Scout. It is a quality rifle, and it comes with a single shot adapter.

Going back nearly 40 years, my boys started on a then-new replica Stevens Favorite. IMO, a small falling block single shot is ideal for kids, as it's easier to manipulate than bolts. The small Remington rolling blocks are nice too, but relatively scarce and pricy.
My son got a CZ Scout for his kids, and this past weekend I was at a Boy Scout shooting event where a CZ was one of the rifles used. A nice rifle, but a bit stiff for smaller kids. I also wish CZ had scaled down the pistol grip along with the rest of the rifle.

Another one to look at is the Winchester Wildcat, if a Russian made rifle isn't a problem for you. I handled one in a store, and it seemed to have a nice feel to it. Don't know much else about them, though.
