if i was truly considering a medium, it would probly be a whelen... cooler than the 9.3, and way more cost effective, i blieve...

A 10" twisted #2 24" 25-06AI,can be a little bit of a good time and a Giant Killer to boot..............

My Rem 700 338-06 with McM magnum fill stock, 23" #4 Lilja, and Kahles 3-9x42 goes 8lb 9ozs all up. Would be a great round to consider. I have not shot the 200 BT with mine but am getting about 2650 fps and sub 1/2 groups with the 225 AB.

I could live with one of those. Probably do anything I'd need with a rig like that but had thought that I might want a longer barrel on a 25-06AI but I've never run one.

"Cooler" is subjective certainly but why do you think a Whelen would be more cost effective? Thinking pistol bullets for practice?

I happen to think both are cool but like the heavier for caliber standard bullets in the 9.3 myself. Not that it matters when it will mostly shoot whitetails smile

last i checked, brass for the 9.3 was exorbitantly expensive and good factory loads were simply unavailable...
this was 2005-6 in the omaha area...

the factory loads for the whelen are somewhat lacking as well, but they are a source of properly headstampeed brass...
i saw 3 boxes of factory whelens on the shelf less than 4 hours ago... $29.95 ea....

and they are not common amongst U.S. manufacturers, but i'd bet you could find heavier .35 bullets as easily as you could find 9.3 brass....

just checked midway...

they have 9.3x62 brass in stock and available to ship...
$119 + shipping for 100 pieces...

they also have woodleigh bullets for the .35 in weights of 275 and 310 gr...

the heaviest 9.3 bullet on that list is 320 gr.

factory ammo is available for both... limited offerings, much is out of stock for both....

Looks like a Mountain Rifle layout. Our 24" #2 25-06 is a favorite. Didn't go AI, but a very sound build.

I got a pretty good clip of fire forming cases in that rifle, that will copiously dispell numerous HOT barrel theorums,as applied to engaging distant targets.

Slapped a 12"x12" 500yd plate fifty times as a curiousity,just as fast as I could aquire/fire,for giggles. 100grainers at 3300fps+.

That is one of the rifles that all of my pards clamor for,as she is amazingly wicked in the Precision department................

Sounds like a fun way to spend just a FEW minutes. Wish I had access to more open (and longer) ranges than I do. Have trouble going more than about 350 at an open location I get to utilize.

Good lookin rifle - I've always had a soft spot for the featherweights. Guessing that's a killer and handles quite well. What kind of velocity are you getting from the 23" tube?

i'd suggest the swede, twisted for the loooong 140-160 grain bullets to use that mag space, maybe 7 pounds all up. you got yer moose covered with the '06s. shoot, that swede with proper load will do moose, too ...

Your're looking in the wrong place. Check out www.grafs.com. Their Graf brass is 39.99 per 100 and is top quality; Privi Partizan 286 gr bullets are 29.99 per hundred and are a very well made cup and core bullet. Speer 270gr are 19.99 per 50; it is a medium bore, and priced as such, but not exorbitantly expensive by any measure.

i don't really know... haven't shot it acrost a chrony yet...
don't have a hornady manual, so i called them and asked a tech for a couple of loads... 50.9 of R15 under the 75 vmax is supposed to be doing mid 36s, but the guy didn't specify a barrel length...

it's zeroed 1" high at 100... held approx 2 1/2 groundhogs high to kill the one mentioned above at a bit over 400...
it's only been shot at paper once so far... chuckles by the tub full when i'm shooting it....
