Of all the WSM's out there, the 270 WSM's and 300 WSM's are by far the most popular (rifle manufacturers have published this info for several years). The 270 WSM is touted as the WSM of the bunch that exceeds it's parent cartridge's ballistics the most.

IMHO - the 270WSM isn't going away anytime soon, likely never. I understand that it's possible extinction might concern some IF they don't handload themselves, but with as many out there now and it's current popularity still sellin' rifles, factory ammo shouldn't be an issue (no more than any other cartridges that aren't in the top 5 or 6).

IF you are a handloader......it's a pleasure to load for with a ton of component combinations at your disposal. I've found the 270 WSM to be quite easy to load for, in that, it wants to shoot most loads and combinations at least quite acceptably.......and some loads, scary accurate.

Good luck..............

As a guy wo seems to like unpopular cartridges (264, 225, 257) I stocked up on brass years ago. Decades later, I still have stockpiles of brass, and can still buy brass and loaded ammo for all of the above.

If you go to a website like Midway, you can buy ammo for literally hundreds of cartridges. Some of which I've never heard of.

The point is that it is very unlikely that ammo/brass will become unavailable, even for relatively unpopular cartridges. If you like the gun/cartridge combo, buy it and worry about more likely problems....like Obama taking the country down the tubes.

Yah I don't reload and wouldn't even know where to start which is why I'd be concerned about the possibility of the round going bye bye.

My two Tikka T3 LS 270WSM shoot 140gr Accubond loads under 0.4" groups. Great performance on elk, moose, bear, deer. I always hunted with my 300WM I almost love backing this rifle now for all my hunting- but a guys still needs more guns.

I'd choose the Tikka in that group.

I can reply to rcscott by saying that you should experience a Savage for yourself prior to posting such a comment that first of all you are in no position to comment on. I've been shooting rifles of a variety of calibers for over 45 years and I personally own several Savages that shoot GREAT (including a Model 16 270WSM). If you'd like to bring whatever you have chambered in 270WSM to the range sometime I'll be very happy to show you what my Savage will do. Let's start at 200 yards and go out from there to 500 yards!! OH....bring a notepad
