If its raining for next Sunday's Michigan deer opener, here's where I'll be. This was my summer project--a 6' X 6' deer shack on 6' wolmanized posts. It's plenty big enough for two hunters to sit in and pass the day dry and warm. A set-up like this makes it much more likely that I'll hunt with one of the safe-queens instead of my standard "shooter." Nice upholstered swivel chair was a gift from the garbage-man. Deer antler door handle will probably be chewed up by pocupines in the off season, but they gotta' eat too.

Nice work! Looks like a family affair. That always builds some nice memories into the structure as well.

Very nice! I put up a 4x4 blind on top of a metal tower that I bought, and 2 years later I'm looking to make it bigger to accomodate 2 people. Yours is exactly what I'd like..

Nice! Good family project!

You could hinge a board about a foot above each window that would work as a shutter out of season and an eave to keep the rain and snow from angling in, when in use.

Not all out blinds are like this one, Don. But once in a while you get one of those November days that just makes you want to stay in not hunt, and that's not going to be a problem any longer.

Rick, I did mount some simple shutters on the windows; these photos are old and don't show the fully finished shack. I mounted orange "no hunting signs" on the inside of the shutters, so that when they're swung open the orange shows on the outside. Also put in outdoor carpeting, just to muffle the noise.

Bought a little catalytic heater this morning. I think we're ready for snow.

When I was younger I would routinely turn my nose up at something like that. Now that old "Arthuritis" is my constant companion it's looking pretty good! Reminds me of several "hoch stande" [sp] I was in , in the Black Forest, Germany, 30km east of Freiburg. The local customs dictate that one sits there until a roebuck wanders past (or is driven by pushers). Some are quite extravagant with heaters, furniture, etc. Others are pretty basic. Due to the god-awful rugged terrain it struck me as a marvelous way to hunt!
