The story and the pics from my buck. I even took one that you might appreciate of his track. Maybe a younger, albeit distant, cousin of a certain buck you guys have up there?? Story: I didnt see a deer until 11:30 am this year which is really odd for my stand. I usually have deer all over my stand all day long. Then at 11:30, a buck and a doe came running into the woods. The buck was in the thick stuff and jumped into a shooting lane and ran straight towards me. He then jumped out of the lane and into some pretty thick saplings. As he was standing 25 yards from me, I found a little hole to shoot through and decided that I better let him have it as the doe was directly downwind from me and any second was going to explode out of there (ironically, she didnt leave for the next 10 minutes!). I shot and he flinched and took off. I was going to give him another one in a little clearing, but my safety strap stopped me short. I watched him as far as I could in the woods and it looked like he was slowing down. I waited about 10 minutes and the doe finally had enough and bailed. This guy was laying about 80 yards from my stand. Double lung, complete pass through. Found him! Hero picture with my helper! Hauling him out. Family photo! A shot from my dad's stand looking towards my stand in that distant woods. The wheat and rye food plot is in that field and we saw a big boy in there Sunday morning before light. He was a dandy!
What you do today is important, you are trading a day in the rest of your life for it.

Man we have to get a better stand by that blind and/or clear cut. That is a hell of a spot. I have a ton of pics, but they are uploading as I type. I already have name for it too. I promise you guys, there is no camp cooler and more fun that Chickenbuck! We really needed some pictures of Muffy getting stuck in the swamp, but we already had the camera put away. Dave was the star chef, cooking those ribs you saw for about 6.5 hours. We ate so many I thought we'd all pop. You know you're at deer camp when all you have for supper is meat, and luch, is meat. Pics soon.

Dave/Tom, keep the pictures and stories coming. I've spent the entire day so far making chili, BBQ and spaghetti meat for camp.
Also got the lanterns filled and ready to go. Ran out of Coleman fuel so took a trip over to the BP bulk plant. They're selling lantern fuel out of the pump for $4.75 a gallon. Sure beats $9 at Fleet.

a little fun after dinner on the night before opener. [img:center] [/img] a surly crew [img:center] [/img] [img:center] [/img] Dave in his story telling hat [img:center] [/img] Muffy laughing at dave's story. [img:center] [/img] That is all I'm posting about the night before. I'm not a meaner.

Great hat. Got to show it to my SIL. He could have had one made from his bear.

Forky Toes likes to tease us by leaving things next to my stand. [img:center] [/img] [img:center] [/img] my gun in the scrape for size reference (unloaded for those of you that carry cold )- no joke that is a mac daddy scrape. [img:center] [/img] My partner, keeps us all safe from the swamp squids. [img:center] [/img] a room with a view. Ryan's stand, and mine for a morning. [img:center] [/img] [img:center] [/img] [img:center][/img] the tag alders in that last pic, is where the buck was I was making naughty talk with. The wind was from me to him, so odds were pretty slim that he was going to stick his neck out and take a look, and he didn't.

Why was muffy rolling around on the ground so much? Probably the same reason your can leaked on your shirt.
