For the fifty years I've been duck hunting, everybody I know says mergansers and other fish ducks are not good to eat. Nobody I know has ever eaten one. Does anybody know, for sure, first hand, about this?

I tried one last year. Now the only time they get shot is when the boys shoot them. But they have to eat em.

A buddy tried cooking one. He could only get halfway through and had to throw it out.

First year I started duck hunting, I shot one. We have tons of them. I felt bad, the guy I was with told me they're nasty to eat. I figured I'd try it out and if not give it to the dog. Couldn't cook it, one nasty bird. Now it's a free pass for them.
