I need to replace the cheap stamped recoil lug on my savage 110 in 270 win due to it being badly warped-it's bent at least 5 degrees. I'm trying to decide what thickness and brand to get-would .25" be about right?
This is a hunting rig with the original hardwood stock, although I've floated the barrel. The savage 110 and rem 700 use the same lug design, so what do the custom remington builders use?
The three different brands I've found so far are:
Hollands .25"

Sharp Shooter Supply .24"
http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/
Callahan (offered in several thicknesses)

Also, as a completely unrelated question, how well does cold blue take to stainless?

Remington lugs don't bend like Savage lugs. Any aftermarket lug is better than the Savage factory lug.
Cold blue doesn't take to stainless at all. GD

Holland is the best in my opinion

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.
