Here is an old post on the Omega on my 45-70 with pictures. The Omega has held up fine on my #1, and works almost as if made for the #1.

Thanks,
I am also looking to scope a #1, I have since had the 45-70 out to the range and I like the scope on that rifle. I think it is all the scope I could want on a 45-70 probably more that I need and, the price on the scope was right. I like the way it all turned out. Good rifle, good scope, combination works well together and it shoots good, real good. I would post some pictures but I am not that talented.

I see what you mean about the eye relief of the VX-II 2x7x33 and I like the weight.

I just got a VX II 2-7x LR. I like it a lot, but have not tried it out yet. Your AH in ,25-06 also would be a good match for that LR feature.

Surprised more don't use a simple 6x as the 36mm has great ER and tube allows proper mounting. Figure a simple K.I.S.S. rifle like a No. 1, goes well with a fixed, but that's my thinking.

Nothing wrong with those good variables you all are mounting, many do just fine.

I have a new #1 in 270 and I am torn between the Zeiss 4x and the L 2-7 x 33. The 2-7 is a little lighter weight. I think the glass is better on the Z 4x. Decisions.

I have a stainless No. 1 in 45-70 that I mounted a Sightron SII 4x32 on. The medium rings work about right and the eye relief is just right. Works well for me.

My No 1A in 7x57 has a Leupold VX-II 1-4x20 on it. The way it is set up, it lookes like a light caliber version of an African stalking rifle. I really like it.

I have one of those 1-4x20s in the older Vari-X II. It looks good on the A, and ER is correct as you say, but mine gets quite dim well before I'm ready to quit hunting for the day, and way before my VX1 2-7x33 gets too dim. Maybe the older Vari-X II version is not as bright as the VX2. I would believe that. Or maybe there's something wrong with my Vari-X. Maybe I should send it in for service.

In any case, I think the little 1-4x20 looks spiffy on the #1A. Wish mine worked better. For now I have to 'suffer' with the 2-7x33. wink smile
