I am thinking about ordering a trigger from Midway for a M700. Has anyone changed their trigger? There are so many brands are some more friendly to change, or is this a gunsmith project?

I can get you a deal on either a Timney or a Rifle Basix.
I like either ... the Rifle Basix is a nice unit with aluminum housing and a narrow trigger shoe. TImney is steel and has a broader shoe, and offers the NULA safety option.

Are they for do-it your-selfers? Or do they really need to be installed by a trained smith?

You can install either easily.

I put a Jewell on my 700. When you order it they pre-set it to whatever value you want and it is easy to install. After you get it you can re-adjust it if you like. I have the hunting version with safety, think it goes from 4 oz. to 3 lb., mine is still at my requested preset of 1 pound.

Tundragriz, This isn't a flame, but a serious question. How is that 1lb trigger to use with gloves on? I imagine it gets cold in PA during the hunting season and gloves would be in order.
I ask because I have a couple very light triggers myself, although they all reside on varmint or play guns. It is very difficult for me to practice good trigger control when I really can't feel the darn thing. I am wondering of the Jewel is any different, since I don't have one myself.

I wouldn't try shooting @ game with gloves on. I buy mitts or gloves large enough that if I am holding the rifle and getting ready to shoot, I can bite the glove and hold it with my teeth while I pull my shooting hand out.
Rick,
I sent you a "triggers" email

You can install either easily. Rick, Which one of those two triggers comes with the easiest to understand set of directions?

Right back atcha.
W-Man:
Geez, I'll have to check. I've installed so many I haven't looked at the directions in ages. The procedure is pretty much the same for both. I can probably dig up a set of instructions for both and send them to you if you like.

Westman I have installed quite a few of each and have come to prefer the RifleBasix. The last several Timneys I did gave me fits and required replacing, though only one of those was for a 700. A mauser and a 7 were the other two.
The RifleBasix will shed more weight than the Timney if that is an issue... art

Guys,
I have never once touched a trigger. Wouldn't even know where to start, but it's time to learn.
I have a Rem 700 that was botched up by a 'smith the previous owner employed and I want to replace it. I figure this is as good of way to start learning as any...
I also have a Rem 600 that I would like to put a Basix trigger in. Are they more difficult to install than a 700 action?
Thanks.

Same basic procedure, W-Man, and no kind of rocket science.
If you can make coffee, you can swap out a trigger.
The Rifle Basix on the 600 is a good call. I have one on mine, and it is superb. I do like the aluminum housing on LW rifles.

Rick,
Thanks a ton. I'll be in touch soon.
It'll be a project for post hunting season.

Who has the best price on the RifleBasix Trigger. Thinking of putting one on my Rem mountain 700.

Rick You just do not understand the brain glitches in mechanically challenged people. Well... I was about three parts into changing out the trigger in my 10/22 to install a Competition Match Hammer and Sear kit. Three removed parts into the project and I realized I had no idea how the bolt stop spring was going to go back in so it was off to drop it off at the gunsmith's to finish the entire installation. But yes, I can make coffee and actually pull the trigger.

I had a little trouble remembering which way the bolt stop spring went back also. But after a couple of emails to Rick I got it together.
This Timney trigger has improved the 700's appeal to me by about 1000%. There is no creeping travel and I have it adjusted to break at 40 ounces and it actually does very consistent, again and again. This rifle has now became a "keeper" with it's own place in my collection, which is mostly Win 70's.

Check the gear shop here or send RickBin a PM for his pricing. Usually the best!
