If you were going to pick a new state to live in based entirely on the hunting and fishing which would you pick?

Colorado, Montana (lived in both) and maybe one of the upper midwest states like Minnesota. But I could be talked into some Northeastern states like New Hampshire or Maine too.

I've lived in Oregon all my life and the hunting here can be good, but its not all that great.
It takes years to draw a good elk tag. At least 2 or 3 years to get a good deer tag. You can get over the counter deer and elk tags but the success rates are pretty low for rifle and archery. If you can get permission for some of the private property around my area you can do pretty well, but that is getting harder and harder as more folks move north. This part of Oregon is slowly becoming more and more like California each year.

What type of hunting and fishing?
Just with the generic specifics provided, California would be a top choice with year 'round big game hunting, ocean and freshwater fishing..
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

I much prefer upland birds and turkeys to big game. Since the midwest has good to great hunting for pheasants, grouse and turkeys its really a no brainer. Wisconsin, Minnesota, or maybe the Dakotas. The great fishing is just a bonus.

pretty happy where I live, could do Montana if the boyz would allow me some space there. am thinking Idaho would be next on the list, though I'm not very well versed on lower 48 hunting.
mostly just what I see here
hell for that matter I'd take CA if Salmonella would adopt me! I can't be but 40 years or so older than the boy he's got.

I do all the big game hunting that I can in Oregon. Love bird hunting, upland and waterfowl. Enjoy chasing rabbits when everything else shuts down.
I guess I like trout, salmon, and steelhead fishing more than warm water fishing. Bass and the like.

Texas just to kill pigs and then Alaska, and last but not least, Alaska.

Unless you're willing to pay, the hunting in TX isn't all that great. The game is, the lack of access isn't. Fishing on the other hand can be mind boggling, from fresh water panfish and bass to anyhting the Gulf gives up - sharks are my favorite.

You're fortunate - cultivate those relationships, and remember, laugh. I've got some access in west TX, to over 400 acres. That's the good news. A deer may wander through once a quarter, the quail are sparse and there are no coyotes or turkey. It's an awful spot, but it's what I've got.
