MD, MM & all others,

I want to work up a load for Elk in my .30-06 using Nosler 180 Partitions. I have H-4350 & RL-22, any others I should look at?

Thank you <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />

IMR 4831 and H4831 SC have worked well for me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I've tried most of the appropriate powders for the 30-06/180 Nosler combo including H4831, RL19 and RL22. I use H4350. It gives top velocity and accuracy while being relatively temperature insensitive (unlike RL19/RL22). I get moa groups with 57.5 gr's H4350 and a 180 NP. Velocity in my 21" bbl is just over 2,750. I've taken two bulls with that load and it works. Some 180 grain bullets in my rifle go 57 gr's max, but the Partition's and Hornady's use 57.5 with no problem. This is a MAX BOOK LOAD!

Work up carefully, etc., ad nauseum <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I always had great luck with IMR 4350 and the 180 NP. My charges were a taste lower than Brad's but the velocities were similar. I never tried the Hogdon variety in the '06 but it is exceptional in other cartridges I've loaded recently. The (in) sensitivity to temp changes is a big plus in my book.

FWIW: the RL powders have a great rep for high velocities but also apparently for lot to lot variations and sensitivity to temp changes. (Exception being RL-15 which has been spectacular in many applications for me) I had one surprising experience with RL-22 and have been less than enthusiatic about it since. I know some folks report great resuls, I'm just a bit cautious with that stuff now.....YMMV.

I use 57 grains of 4350 with the Nosler Partition 180. Vels in my 24" Springfield are 2825 fps+.

5 elk shot with this rifle and load combination, all one shot kills, and all pass thru's.

As stated, I can't seem to improve on either of the 4350s, whichever one works the best in an individual rifle. 56 grains plus or minus a grain will usually do it.

I might add that I have seen more elk killed with the 30-06 and 180 grain bullets than any other combination. It is a proven winner. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

FYI everyone, IMR 4350, for whatever reason, usually runs 1 grain less than H4350 wirh any load which is why I think it's important to designate which 4350 is used in a load posted.
