Hello,
I need help finding a good 99 for hunting. I am looking for a 308 and I care more about accuracy than I do looks(E modle would be fine with me as I am not a collector). The 99s are very scarce around here and I dont trust the auction sites for what Im looking for. I would really like one that someone has used the gun and knows it will shoot.I will be shooting out to 250 yards so it will need to be able to take a scope(eyes getting bad) and I also like the rotory mag. instead of the clip.
If you guys could help me out I really would appreciate it.

Thanks for your time,
Brittman

inlovwithguns,
I dont know alot about the 300 other than it is simaler to the 3030 in power and range. I really like the 308 as I consider it one of the most accurate rounds around. Also it is a near perfect round for deer close up and out to 250 to 300 yards which is about as far as I can shoot and hit anything. But let me say that I have always wanted to try out the 300 savage.

Brittman, I think your thinking of the 303 Savage as being close to the 30-30. The 300 Savage is actually very close to the 308!

Mad-dog,
I did not know that about the 300. I would definently would consider one if it would do the job. I guess you could say a man hasnt had a Savage unless he's had a 300 savage.

Hi, I have both 308 and 300,and have taken deer with both, neither you or the deer will know which one you used, they are that close, in accurcy and power, I use the 300,more than the 308, because it is open sighted, (no scope) and I can get it on target quicker in thick brush, I have also taken deer at 200.+ yards with the 300. I have a tang (peep) sight on it for long shot's. Go over to Cherry's Fine Guns on Wendover in Greensboro.
(www.cherrys.com) They bought up a collection in Tx.
Had a great takedown in 250 - 3000, I'd have bought , but alas I am a hunter and I didn't want to hurt the feelings of
my 99f featherweight...

I have a very accurate .300 EG that's only ordinary on the outside. Have shot handloads into 3/4" for 5 shots at 100 yards. Would be wiling to sell, with scope mounts, for $300 plus shipping.

Hey Guys,
I got the 308 that Lightfoot posted. Mad Dog , I appreciate you responding to my PM about the 300 its just that I did really want a 308 as I am fimalier with this cal. but thats not saying that the 300 wouldnt have been a great gun. I will try this gun out during firearms season to see how I like it and if I do I will pick up a 300 next. I sure hope the 308 shoots good, the guy at the gun shop(S.D.) said the blue was 95% , the wood had a few dings , the crown and bore looked very good(I hope that aint just bull). Hubert, I hope he doesnt send me pic. #6 or I will be pissed! This is a M99F modle ,can anyone tell me a little info on the M and the F.

Looks like Im getting started,

BRITTMAN67,
I just sort of lurk here, enjoying learning more about the 99 as well as the other classic guns they manufactured. I just got my first one (99f, .308) and enjoy shooting it a lot. Once you shoot your first one, you'll start looking at other models and calibers to buy....Trust me!
