Found a Kimber Montana in .270 WSM at the local shop for $799. Went ahead and took some snap caps with me and the rifle fed without problems. It's new, just been on the shelf for awhile.

I was also considering a Winchester Extreme Weather or a Sako Finnlight in the same caliber, but it looks like I am going to spend $100-150 more for either of these rifles (and I think the Finnlight I looked at was used). Whaddya think?

Sounds like a good price on a new Montana. They seem to go for that price here on the fire used. There was thought at one time that Montanas after a certain serial number had the feeding issues worked out. What the number was or if it proved to be true, I'm not for certain, but sounds as if the rifle in question will feed well.

Sounds like a good price to me, but that finnlight should get looked into also...

There are certainly no flies on the Sako however the Montana is about a full pound lighter...depends on the individual & what he's really looking for.

The Sako Finnlight would work better for me smile

I bought a used Montana last month. 270 wsm 700 bucks. It's got some scratches, but shoots really good. I like it. Sounds like you got very good deal. Mine seems to like the Barnes 110 grains. Give that a try. It does seem to "hop" a bit when you fire it. The dealer said that's why the previous owner traded it. Hasn't bothered me

I'd be suspect of any 5 1/2 pound .270 WSM that DIDN'T "hop" a little...

Sounds like a deal to me. Keep us updated on how she works out for you. I've never owned a rifle that light before, but have been considering it as I get older. I'm very fond of my Benelli Ultra-Light shotgun.

Geez with all the iffy crap you hear about Kimbers for $150.00 more for a Sako, I'd be all over the Sako.

There's a gently used 300 WSM Montana on the used rack at my favorite gunshop here in Kalispell, for 750 bucks. It's pre-shipsbow feed ramp, and pre- slight recess on the edge of the crown (where the rifling meets 11 degree crown)

I couldn't help but notice the card stock folded up and stuck between the barrel and stock.

Other than that, nice shape... I saw two little dings on the stock (paint chips about .050" around) If the gun got hunted much (if at all) the guy that owned it takes much better care of his [bleep] than I do. Tim that owns the store said the guy traded it off on a 308 Montana. Tim also hinted that the WSM was probably too much gun for the guy.

PM me if anybody wants it. I'd be glad to send biz Tim's way, he's a helluva good guy.

Oh... Thats a cash/check/MO price. They charge 3% for credit cards.

Bought a used Montana in 308 for $650. Was a very finicky rifle but finally sorted it out and found some ammo it liked. Now that I got THAT out of the way... I think I'd be looking hard at that Sako.

Well, I decided to look a bit more into the Finnlight. Sure enough, it had been sold. I swear I miss out on more good deals when I procrastinate, maybe the Montana will be gone by the time I make a decision on that.
