I have been using 165 grn Accubonds with my 30-06. It shoots them right about 1"@100yds. Man does it like Sierra Gamekings!
1/2-3/4" @ 100yds. Wondered if this is stout enough bullet for Canadian Bucks, shots 50yds to 300yds? Just use it for 250+ pound deer in Alberta, nothing bigger. Thanks Buckfever1

Put 'em where they belong (and you obviously can w/ groups like that) and they'll do what you need 'em to do, just like any other hunting bullet.

You shooting the Game King hollow points, soft points, or Pro Hunters?

Those 165 gr Game King hollow points are particularly tough.

In the.06,I prefer the 180's but the 165's will certainly do the job. Might bekinda messy at 50 yds though. I would avoid the shoulder if you want the meat.

The Sierra 165gr BTHP Gameking is one of my favorite bullets for deer hunting with a 30/06. I am sure that I have killed more than 75 whitetails and probably 30 hogs with that bullet. I loaded them for a friend's rifle for deer hunting and he took them to Colorado and killed a very nice Elk. I loaded 165 partitions for my Elk last year. I own five different 30/06s and three of them use the Sierra. Are they a tough bullet, never recovered on to check weight/expansion.Rick.

When I tried Sierra 165gr Bt's every deer I shot resulted in a chase. Funny thing is, I had much better results with 150gr Bt's out of my 270 on elk.

I mean, my "sample size" was 4 muleys over the course of 2 years, but I would think at least a couple of them deer would've fell down on the spot.......

Mediocre penetration, and I would find the jacket and core laying next to one another.

The BTHP may be a different animal though.

As far as Sierra bullets go for my 30-06 I would agree that the 165gr BTHP is a good performing bullet.

I wouldn't hesistate to use them. I'ved killed quite a few deer and hogs with Sierra bullets in different calibers and weights.

The gameking soft points aren't the toughest bullet on the market but its just a friggin' deer, their not armored for Pete's sake.

Still amazes me people consider it bullet "failure" because the deer didn't die upside down in it's own tracks with all four feet in the air........

Try Hornady SST's 165 gr. I use them and have had great results. I did use Sierra's years ago and had them blow up on the skin. Got the deer but had to chase them. Maybe they are better now... but I will stick with SST's. They are also very accurate, as i make 5 shot groups at 100 yds, and completely cover all 5 holes with a quarter. I have not chased any deer or bear after shooting them.

Another vote for the Sierra 165gr HPBT. That's what I use for elk, deer & antelope.

Depending on the kind of game I might encounter, I switch between the 165 GK BTSP (roedeer) or BTHP (wild boar or red deer). Both are very accurate out of my Sauer 202(.5-.75 MOA for 5 shots)and the cherry on the cake is that they shoot the same (accuracy and P.O.I.) with the same powder charge of N 160 / 60.5.

The one time I shot a mule deer with a 165 BTHP an excessive amount of meat was blown up on the near side. I've gone with slightly tougher bullets for deer since: Hornady, Nosler, and Corelocts. The BTSP are probably better both are very accurate in my rifles.

i have used the 125gr sierra in 30-30 and 165gr bthp the 150gr pro hunter both of them in 30-06 and they work ok pretty soft like hornady interlocks better but all the the deer that was shot with them died should have no problem on deer

Thicker jacket and harder alloy core. Yes, BC is not as good.
