I just bought a used Model 70 Classic stainless synthetic in .338 Winchester magnum with Leupold quick-release mounts and a Burris 2x8 posi-lock scope. Does anybody have any experience with these items. I.E. will the quick-release mounts actually return to zero? Also, I've heard stories that when you actually "lock down" your adjustments with the posi-lock feature, it actually moves the reticle cell enough to shift the point of impact.

The quick release mounts are usually good for about an inch difference at 100 yards. I have no idea about posi-lock Burris.

The posi-lock will move the reticle. I can't remember how much it will move the reticle but you will notice it. Make sure the scope doesn't hit you. Burris exagerates the eye relief or measures from the rear lens because I came up with about 1/2" less eye relief on mine.

Orion03 and Dave, thanks for the info. I shot it at the range today and didn't have any problems with the quick-release mounts. I cranked the scope up to 8x and did notice that there wasn't much eye relief.

I have used that combo before with good success. I have found the Loopy QD's to be quite rugged and repeatable. I also use only Burris Posi Locks on my larger bore rifles. They are TOUGH. That 2-8x32 is one of my favorite all time Burris scopes and it is a shame they no longer make it. Eye relief and field of view at 2X are tremendous. 8x was still plenty for me with a hard kicking 340. You have a great combo there which needs no changes to it.

I have the Leupold QR base and rings on 4 of my rifles. Never shot loose or has point of impact change. I have 1 gun cabinet that does not allow a rifle with a scope mounted so I have to put the rifle away without the scope. A real tough mount.

I've found the Leupold QRs to return so close to spot on that it is hard tell any difference when group variations are taken into account.
When premier reticle was doing Leupold work, they told a friend of mine they found the QRs to usually return to exact same poi or if not, not enough to make any difference at all but extreme range.

Thumbs up on the QR mounts - I have two different scopes zeroed on one gun and they stay on target to an amazing degree. No opinion on the scope - never used one.
