I am in the process of building along range rifle (tactical). I am torn between this Night Force NXS 5.5-22x56 or this
LEUPOLD MARK 4 LR/T RIFLE SCOPE 8.5-25 X 50 M1 MIL DOT
What are advantages or disadvantages. Are the NF's really woth the extra dough?
I have always had Leupold man but will spare no expense....

Nighforce dominates the longrange circut. Th Nightforce adjusts in MOA and not IPHY like the Leupy. The Nightforce adjustments are very precise and repeatable IME.
You will have to make the call as to whether you think the Nightforce is worth the extra "dough" or not. Just rememeber you get what you pay for

Nightforce. You really don't need the 56mm objective, the 50 works just fine.
For me the Nightforce was worth the extra money. (NXS 5.5-22x50)

I recently went through the same thing leupold vs nightforce. I went with the nightforce. I found a good deal on a barely used one and mounted it on my new 338 RUM, all was great and I love the scope but it started to not track correctly, all vertical. I called nightforce and they said send it in and they would take a look. I sent it to them and called them about a week later to see if they had taken a look at it and the gentleman said repairs are out at least 4-6 weeks. To say the least I was disapointed in that there backlog on repairs is that far out. The few Leupolds that I have had issues with have been fixed and returned in around a week or less. Just thought I would throw that in, I still love the nightforce and will be buying another in the next month (which I hope is the right decision) but was very disapointed with the shop time, and having to go to the shop in the first place. 1 month of service for me and a trip to the shop is not good. Apparently mine in not the only one in for repairs or there would not be a 4-6 week wait time.

(just trying to learn here). No it does not make a huge difference. The rock solid dependebility and of the Nighforce is it's strong suite for sure

Peters - I think it's luck of the draw. It's a long story, but basically I shipped a Leupold VX I 2-7X RF special back 'cause the power selector ring was so stiff it was taking skin off my hand when I'd adjust the power. The shipper's tracking system was down when I went in, but I'd had good luck with them and decided to gamble on not getting a tracking number. Didn't hear from Leupold ... didn't hear from Leupold ... didn't hear from Leupold. I'd guess 6 weeks to 2 months went by, so I emailed them. Their rep couldn't find any sort of info, no un-identified scopes of that sort on the bench. Oh, to make it better ... I lost track of the serial number, too! After a couple weeks going back and forth every day or two, I sorta figured my scope was just gone. Then one day it showed up on my doorstep courtesy of UPS. The guy at Leupold still couldn't find tracking on it!! And about a week after it came back I got a notice from their service center that my scope had arrived and they'd look it over for me. I like Leupold, but sometimes [bleep] happens that makes no sense. I don't think you can count on Leupold or Nightforce being faster or better to work with, you get luck of the draw, whatever is dictated by the alignment of the stars and planets when you send your "toy" out the door. Hope for the best but don't count on getting it. It doesn't matter who the maker is, even the best drop the balls sometimes. Tom

I've yet to own one, but the overwhelming consensus that I've seen from them that know, is Nightforce.

You 'n' me both. I'm a die-hard Leupold fan. I only currently own one non-leupold, a discontinued Simmons gold medal 2-7X handgun scope JD Jones was pushing years back for the hard kickers.
However ... I did a bad bad thing. Few years ago there was a used tactical rifle at my favorite gunshop which had a Nightforce 12-42X on it. I looked through it. I need one like I need an extra hole in the head, but regardless, I got the bug, it's not fading, I just gotta gotta gotta have one of those someday, soon as I figure out what to put it on.
