I'm needing a riflescope for a 243 I have that I use for deer and coyotes. I use it in the manner of a "walking varminter". I usually use LeupoldsVari X-IIIs, but I'm looking to keep the price around/under $200 for a midsized 3 x 9. Any suggestions? Thoughts on Pentax or Bushnells?
thanks!

At that price range I would go with a Burris 3-9 or the Buckmaster. I have used both over the years and the Burris was a brighter in my opinion plus the ballistic plex should work well with your .243.

Hands down the best scope for that price is the Nikon Team Primos. This scope is the exact same as the old Monarch UCC 3x9. They are pretty lightweight which is a plus.

It's a no brainer. Check out the Vortex Crossfire 3x9 with an illuminated dot reticle for $149. I have two, one on a Mod. 70 30-06 and the other on a Mod. 70 .223. A good, solid scope and a steal for the money.

bayloralum1996,
For that price I would purchase two 4-16X Tascos. In fact I did just that a few years ago. They are holding up very well on some big kickers.

Wait a couple weeks and check out the new Redfields..... The new Redfields have been in most retailers inventory for two weeks. I bought one and installed it on a Remington 7mm-08 a week ago. Nice scope, and would probably sell well at $200. I paid retail for mine ($149), and felt like I got a great deal.

Baylor,
Check out used Leup. III scopes in your area, often you can get a good one for under your $200. Then you send it off to the factory, and they send it back in a week ready to hunt.

jim Good advice. Works very well for me, and I end up with high quality scope for resonable dollars. Wayne

I sure don't see leupold vari x 111 scopes for under $200.. that would be pretty unusual. Although one heck of a deal!

+1 for the Primos Nikons. However. the Buckmaster will not disappoint you. Mine is at least as good as my old VX-II. Would buy another.

Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40
I have them both on rigs, like them very much, and I'll buy more as the need arises.
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...
