Im new to this forum and new to a savage 99 and im trying to learn a little about this 99c i have purchased in 22-250 caliber. I own several guns and im familiar with the 22-250 round. I understand these rifles in this caliber are rare. just how few of these were made and is this a keeper gun? it is nearly new with supposedly less than a full box shot in it and i have no reason to doubt it. any input on this rifle is appreciated thank you.

With it in that condition then ya, it's worth a few pennies.

Not sure on production numbers but they aren't seen alot. Won't even chance a guess.

I've got one in 22-250 and it's gotta be the most accurate of all my 99's.

I'd say keep it. A couple guys might tell you it's junk cause it's a post-mil tang safety gun but just ignore it, I wouldn't trade mine up for anything.

Quite rare.. I don't think anybody has a good handle on how many were produced, but they were only made for a very short period of time. Don't have my notes with me, somebody will jump in with that information.

If nearly new, I'd park it in the gunsafe.

As Other Said Great Rifle, and Rare
I have had a Few and Still have 2.
They'll Fetch between 800.00 to 2500.00 from what i have seen
If it like new Put it away,In the Safe. Will only go up in value.

I heard,,but this is on hear-say and i do not confirm this by any-means but the number that i heard was only 600 some of these rifles where produced. Only the Factory or the Historian would probably have a number that they can confirm.

Steve, I sold a NIB 22-250 a while back and it didn't bring $2500..

Still, that's one that's going to end up being like the 25-35's or 38-55's are now. Stow it away as part of your retirement plan.

i have no desire to get rid of it alhtough im mainly a collector of wwii firearms and until i bought the 99 the only savage i owned was an original savage made .303 and i consider it to be one of my favorites even over the garand and BAR i have. thanks for accepting me on here. I look forward to more gun talk and ill try to post some pics soon.

Stay around, you have a lot more 99's to go before you're full up. And 2 is just the start.. they do tend to breed.

Here was mine:

i might have just discovered mine is not an original 22-250. i looked it over closer and realized that the barrel has no other info on it other than just 22-250 and not stamped straight. the only way i knew it was a 99 is the design and the "c" part being the first digit of serial number so i assumed it to be a 99c. did savage make them that way or do you fellas think a gunsmith did this to a different caliber?

The "C" is to designate a removable clip model. It sounds like you have a rebarreled action. Is it a rotary magazine model 99? or does it have a clip? Don

They only made them in 99C's, mag fed.

As far as $2500 goes I'm not sure what idiot paid that for a 22-250 even if it was still in the box unopened.

I think 600 is alot on the low side as well. If I had to take a guess I'd say more like 2500-3000 of them made.

It might have been rebarreled with one of the left over barrels from the factory. I don't know if they had a barrel address on them or not, Rick was talking about those a couple weeks ago and I forgot what he said about them.

There was one for sale on GA that matches your description perfectly... they were asking something stupid like $2300... I wrote them politely and informed them there gun lacked any collector value and they lowered the price quite a bit...that one was NOT an original savage barrel ...

And I'm with Joe on the production numbers... I really have no ground to stand on except I have seem a LOT more of them for sale than a total of 600 would allow for... I know of at least 2 for sale right now

Murray does not list the 99a in caliber 22-250. If one does exist, it apparently wasn't a standard production issue.
