This is a 30-338 Wildcat "Texas Magnum" bolt action. Don't know much about these, has short 60 degree bolt throw like a Weatherby. I have never shot this and don't have dies or brass. I picked it up many years ago to build 'something' on and never got around to it. Now have three right handed kids and one right handed rifle. Looking to trade or sell. If interested I can email some pics. lostrivercamps aol.com

Propaneman, I know little to nothing about these rifles. I picked up the rifle 20ish years ago because the action seemes stout and something I could build off of later. I have never gotten around to it or taken it to a gunsmith for their thoughts. With that being said, I would talk with a gunsmith who has run the numbers on the 378/416/460 Weatherby cases. In particular he researched using the Remington 700 magnum length actions for building a couple 30-378's and the increased surface area and computations they came up with for pressures concerned him. They felt it "probably" would never be a problem, but for good reason they weren't comfortable with "probably". I see a Browning A bolt Stalker on Gunbroker that has been barelled in a 378, something the folks at Christenson Arms told me they "would never do!"

I bought reamer, dies and cases to do a 30-378 on a Remington 700 and was told too much metal had to be removed raising the safety question. My rifle was bought some 20 years ago when the manufacter wanted to move to our town supposely if special financing was arranged. Bet that story could get interesting! Have shot 3 or 4 Elk with the rifle doubt if I woould sell it but would re chamber if possible. Will now check into doing that.

I know some about Rangers - and am always looking to buy another. Depending on condition and model it could be worth anywhere from $300 - $900. Occasionaly I will see one for over $1,000 - but not very often. The "Texas Magnums" generally go for $300-$450ish. A Governers grade (nicer) stock would fetch more. Send me a picture and I can tell you more about yours. Also a SN# would help. bradpenny msn.com
