I'm looking for a good quality, low magnification (1.5x-5x) scope with a good amount of eye relief. It will be on a Ruger #1 in 45-70 that I plan to run some medium heavy to heavy loads in. I have a tendency to creep up on the optics and I don't like to put the death grip on the forearm as this can affect the point of impact. So, sometimes the scope gets awful close to biting me and I would like to have a little more room or would offset rings help this?
Keep your powder dry and stay frosty my friends.

Don't know why they stopped making them, but the leupold 2.5x compact has 5" of eye relief. You can find them used for ~$200.

I would go with a 6x42. . . . . .
Within your parameters, I would go Leupold 4x33.

Personally, I would buy a Conquest fixed 4x scope. It has 4" of eye relief, and is one hell of a good scope. Lot less that $500 too.

The obvious choice: Leupold Vari-X III 1.5x5. I should think.
