I do not have my Hornady manual handy, but the No 2 Barnes suggests 53.5 gr as a starting load for 2790 fps and 57.5 gr as a max for 2999 fps with their 140 gr xfb. This is for H4831. Hope this gets you started!

Broncos are officially the worst team in the nation this year.

Imartin: I have been using IMR 4831 and Nosler 140 grain Partitions in my custom 280 Remington Rifle for 23 years now. NEVER tried anything else - never needed to! I have killed Blacktailed Deer, Antelope, Bull Elk, Mt. Goat, Mule Deer, Black Bear and Whitetailed Deer with it to date. Accuracy and lethality are SUPERB with this combo! Simply switch to IMR 4831 and the SPLENDID Hunting bullets made by Nosler (140 grain Partitions) for your 280! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I've only used H4831 with 154s, but with great success. Very accurate load at 58 and 59 grs. Running 2970-3000fps. I suspect it would be very good with 139s, and should get 3000-3100 safely, in a 22-24" bbl gun.
