the 209x50's are intended for G2's, and have a pin sticking below the lug to prevent lockup on a regular frame...that is necause another company (Gonic Arms) owned the patent for contender muzzleloaders, but the G2 was fair game.
i bought a 209x45 barrel myself & used a dremel to lop that pin off th elug, took about 30 seconds, and works like a charm on my regulat "old style" frames. i personally dont care for the feel of G2's or Encores, after 20 years of contenders the others dont feel right.
be advised, lopping that pin off is considered a "modification" by the factory & voids your warranty on the barrel, though it does nor affect function in any way.
i use mine on a stainless or armour alloy frame..make sure you dont allow residue from lots of shooting to accumulate in your action to invite rust, i wipe mine out at the end of the season, never had any issues.
the 209x45 & 209x50 are realitively quick twist, work great for sabots.
best reagrds;
Gerald

well hot doggie !
that is excellent news ! and info !
whew ? now i know i've done the right thing, yes ... i too ''love'' my older contenders,
i've had mine for many years,
what loads are you using ? what type bullet ?
you have one really fine looking muzzel loader there.
all i need now is a wood stock, mine is the plastic stock, works, but would rather have wood, on a BP,
thanks so much.

Fixed it. It's just a link to a pretty decent price on the .45 barrel.

Peabody; that one was a factory stock that happened to have nice wood, now & then TC lets some good stuff slip through. Ed Kirkpatrick of Ed's TC's usually has wood buttstocks available, though he can he hard to catch up with now & then. his # is 405-879-0879. TC offered both synthetic & wood stock sets. forgot to mention that it is my understanding the muzzleloader barrels were to have been dropped from production. Match Grade Machine makes custom barrels & can also build you one, i also have a 26" stainless fluted 209x45 barrel from them with a smoke brake to vent that cloud of smoke to the sides when you shoot. both the 209x45 & 209x50 TC factory barrels had relatively quick twist. i usually shoot the SST hornady bullets in sabots, 100 grains Pyrodex triple-7. groups run around 1.5" at a hundred or so. i used that same combo in muzzleloader season this year in the TC factory barrel to take 2 deer, one of them a decent sized buck, that bullet performed perfectly. Good post - I got my second T/C in a great deal for a Bulberry .50 cal MZLR with mount, rings, scope, trigger job, and a custom stock.
It was a mess from not being cleaned. Bulberry reconditioned the barrel, I recommend them highly.
I just saw an article about late season Whitetail mzlr hunts in the mid-west. The inlines are not generally legal here in the west, but maybe its time to learn to shoot this gun and order some mid western synopsises (synopsi?).
Where are inlines legal that you guys know of?

Some inlines are legal almost everywhere, including the west. Plunger action inlines such as the Whites are (the TC Black Diamond and the new TC Northwest Explorer version of the Omega should be as well) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v130/sabotloader/TCNWExplorer.jpg QLA on a conical rifle is asking for trouble, IMHO. To my knowledge, there are NO states that will not allow inlines in some fashion.
