...............unfortunately we didn't get it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

We were hunting public land and the elk were on a small parcel of private. The land owner shot a nice 5x5 bull.......but the big 7x7 that was in the herd got away. We spent the better part of the day trying to track and catch up to the herd after it left private ground in hopes of seeing the big boy, but no such luck. My wife had the tag and she did awesome, she had that look in her eyes, she was going to get that bull or go down trying. She was a trooper and kept up with me and all I could dish out.....even a log shimmy over a full creek. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> She really wanted that big bull, I was proud.

The woods are gorgeous this time of year with leaves turning colors and the smell of fall in the air. We enjoyed a pause along a creek to watch the salmon spawn and listen to the splash in the ripples as they headed up stream. It was a cool site.

On the drive home my wife was telling me she was sorry and disappointed she wasn't succesful.......I had to tell her nothing could be further from the truth.......it was one of the best days one could ever ask for in the woods. She got that glazed look in her eyes again and paused, then said "I'll get one next year."

Dang Spike you should a sent me that stock for free!! Oh well I married a beautiful woman too, but she don't hunt, just helps butcher and wrap and let's me go, but she does love the outdoors. Maybe just a discount.....oops forgot you already gave me a good deal, nevermind. Great pics Spike, don't see how a day afield could be a disappointment with that scenery. 1ak

Spike,

Did you dazzle your wife with your baitcasting skills?:-)

Looks like a great day with your wife. The Goatsack Brothers and I are still waiting for some good looking girls who like to hunt/fish to move to Paradise. It's going to be a long wait.........

John,

Now, wouldn't a hot tub feel great after a long day of crossing streams and chasing elk? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />- Bob the Sparky

Spike,
Congrats to you both for not giving up. She learned something very important, it doesn't always work out no matter how hard you work. Even on those trips they should be considered successful because they are! Plus your very lucky to hunt with your wife. Mine won't hunt with me...

I'll tel lyou one thing. You are a lucky man. Your wife is sure a lot easir on the eyes than some of the elk and elk hunters I have seen on this site.

its a cow tag for 630 and 631 over north of the lake. she rubs the fact in EVERYTIME she thinks of it and with less than a week till she gets to hunt thats quite often. she has settled(i think) on using my Marlin 1895G with a weaver K4 and 320 grain hard cast lead bullets. they wont be hot loads but at 100 yards they should punch through an elk easy enough. its her first elk tag and shes on cloud 9.

"Did you other guys even see it?"

Now that's funny. After reading this I actually had to go back and look at the rifle. For some reason I missed it the first time. Now that I made a consentrated effort to see it, I must agree it is a great looking rifle. Not only that it has the bolt on the correct side. So Spikey how about some details on the rifle?

You guys are funny.......perverted, but funny <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The rifle?????

That there is a genuine......................

................."Logger Special".........................Remington 700 BDL stainless, coated and baked, Leupold 6x placed oh so tightly in Leupold Dual Dovetails and finished with a McSwirly stock. And to top it off, just for a quick jab to the ribs, drum roll please.............Aught Sixxxxx!

No thrills, no fuss. You can pound nails with it and it will still hold zero. It's one of my favorites.......but the bolt handle is on the wrong side. It shoots 168g TSX at 3000fps well within acceptable group size.

Anything else you boys want to know or are your tongues still hanging out? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
