Bought my son a new in the box stainless 44 for Christmas. While he was admiring it, he noticed the barrel had nothing stamped on it at all saying Marlin, 44mag, where it was made or anything. I had a blued version that has all that info stamped on the left side of the barrel, and a warning about improper use can cause injury or death on the right side. The only thing that is stamped on his is a small "jm" on the left side of the barrel just above the receiver. The receiver does have the SN stamped on it. Does anyone else have a 1894 44sst and does yours have the info stamped on the barrel? Just curious.

This may be a factory "mistake" that got out into circulation. Saw this happen once with a S&W Mountain Gun in .44. The owner called up S&W and they fell all over themselves offering to take it back (liability issues with no barrel stamp). The owner elected not to send it back and kept it in hoping that this would elevate it's collectable value someday.

Hang onto it , someday Marlin collectors may be surrounding your house to get it.

That's his plan. He happened to go to the gun store where I bought it for him and told the owner about it. He said his mouth dropped open in disbeleive and said he would have never of sold it to me if he had noticed it first. He would have kept for himself. Said he had never seen that in the 10 yrs he owned the store. He said he was going to tell the Marlin rep about it when he sees him.
