Anyone living there? May be relocating and would like some on the ground information. I have seen the websites.
Thanks

One of foster kids is from Kotzebue, so I've heard all about it. Sounds like they like alcohol up there...

I think the Dairy Queen went out of business, that was a big hit with us when we hit town.
I'd recommend a trip there first, say around February.

What is your profession and what are your hobbies? Is the wife also excited about going?

It's been a while since I was there but that is definately a town I'd visit before I moved. In fact I've visited it and didn't move. Nice place to hunt out of. It's expensive to live in the "bush" $5.00/gal gas stuff like that. Food is expensive too.

I've got a number of good friends who live there. They made a move "up" by moving in from villages. Kotz, according to a brother who lived there for several years, is like a big village.
It is no longer wet I don't think. Sometimes damp is worse and dry worse still. There really is nothing like spirits, wrongly applied, to kill the one's spirit.

It won't be there after the oceans rise a few feet. Find a place with hills. Bruce

... We have lived worse places. You've lived in Bethel then? Was hoping someone had some idea about available housing.
hobbies, shooting and loading. Buying a place has always seemed like a good way from my observations. And it seems like there are always those who are happy to sell in order to vacate. You have to pay, of course, but it beats paying high rental rates without any equity in return. What's your line? Ramp, DOT, wrenching, joystick, or....?

The poster Walt, "Northwestalaska" is currently living in Kotz. Haven't seen him post in awhile, but he'd be a good guy to talk to.

We have lived worse places. I seriously doubt it! You're in for one hell of a culture shock. Good luck. Bear in Fairbanks

I have been in and out of Bethel many times, the best thing I ever heard about Bethel was "If God was to take the temperature of the earth he would stick his reticle thermometer in Bethel".

Reminds me of Miss T's uncle Roger carrying on about octopus testicles in a noisey bar...

That from the best/worst thing ever to come out of Bethel?!? That settles it, I'm getting a t-shirt made. Re: "reticle" thermometer. To quote the princess bride: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

I was almost raped in Bethel when I was 18. Something about crazy blonde hair and blue eyes drove those 'dry' women crazy.
I can still her the sounds of drunken native women yelling out 'Hey Golden Hair'
