with the help of several forum members a couple weeks ago I picked up a 99F in .243. It had the stock shortened and swivels added. But it shoots great and harvested 2 hogs last night in north Texas. It was right at dark and I could barely see my gold front bead, luckily I polished it before I went out. One shot each at about 60 yards in pretty heavy brush. I had to do a lot of moving and positioning to get at these guys. The shooting was fast and the Savage helped me keep a sight picture and great speed. The big one is about 120 lbs and went about 20 yards and piled up. The little one was DRT. I was shooting factory Remington 80 PSP with a Lyman tang sight. I zero for 150 yards and this thing shoots laser beam flat out to about 200. I added a spacer and a new pad to replace the lost length from the other pad. I also had to back off the rotor tension 5 clicks. It was so tight the rounds literally popped out of the magazine when the lever was opened. I almost didn't make it back with the rifle, my buddies wanted it real bad.

Nice...!!! Congrats...!!!
Mike...
All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

Sweet! Put a Leupie 2 x 7 compact on there and it will ease the strain on your eyes.

Well, your buddies have good taste..! Congrats,
Always wanted to be somewhere that had wild piggys...
Although I did build for a log home contractor who had trouble loading his 3 hogs into the van one day to take to the butcher...I just "happened" to have my 300 in my truck...
Sincerely, Scott

The only gun that compares to the Savage M1899/99 for quick snap shooting might be a best grade English double. Everything else pales to insignificance. Its only right that your buddies are jealous. Let 'em eat Remchesters.

Well done! 80 grain bullets on hogs, when everyone else likes to use the biggest and heavist available, congrats.

Nice shootin'. Where in DFW did you get those two? Just curious...I blew a shot at one at a buddy's lease south of Granbury last year, but did get one (albeit close-up with the shotgun) early this year. Now that deer season's over, time to go hoggin' with the 250!

Thanks guys! We were near Newcastle about 2 hours west of Denton. I just picked up some Nosler 85 grain Partitions and will work up a load although I have to admit I am not dissapointed with the factory Remington 80 PSP.
