Oh, those new Marlins with the new safety, you just GOTTA love them!! Or, not. Sometimes it's best to stop making them when they SUCK.  The safety can be replaced with a dummy that looks like a screw.

I'm staying out of this one, I have a couple of 99s and a couple of antique Winchesters, but I want some Marlins too. I'm not picking this or that or that -- I'm picking this and that and that.

OK 99 Savage in .250 is the top of the line coyote killer of the choices in lever IMO. Better?

Have to say, Savage rules all, Marlin is second choice, and Winny Lever's RULE all which that sucks! Savage takes real bullets, not just them [bleep] flatpoints like the marlin and Winny. Savage has put real rifle cartridges in their rifles, 250, 300 Sav, 308, 284, what has Winchester or Marlin done? Oh yeah,l and my Savage doesn't sound like a friggin Bradely Fighting vehicle rolling down a rutted Tank Trail when you shake it, like the Winchester does. Ya'll think 270 vs. 30-06 gets bad, watch this one! Savage, excelling in Excellence with the 303 Sav 34 months before Winchester intro'd the 30 WCF! I love my Savage 99 and it's a lot smoother than the Winchesters. Not all Winchesters were limited to flat-point bullets. The 95 was designed to be used with the big rifle calibers using pointed bullets. Mine is chambered in .30-06. And as for "real" cartridges...I'd say that my Grandfather's .45-90 Marlin (Don't know the model, my uncle has it) would beg to differ... Aqualung
